About the Entomological Society of America

The Entomological Society of America (ESA) is a not-for-profit educational organization committed to serving the scientific and professional needs of entomologists and individuals in related disciplines throughout the world.

Founded in 1889, ESA is now the largest international association responsible for advancing the science of entomology. An organization of almost 8,500 individuals, ESA membership includes representatives from colleges and universities, state and national agricultural departments, health agencies, private industry, and federal and state governments.

Entomologists study insects and their relationships to humans, the environment, and other organisms. The scientists make significant contributions every year in such diverse fields as agriculture, chemistry, biology, economics, international trade, health, forensics, ecology, and medicine. The study of insects serves as the basis for development in biological and chemical pest control, food and product storage, pharmaceuticals, epidemiology, biological diversity, and a variety of other fields.
