Transitions in Agbiotech: Economics of Strategy and Policy

This conference is focused on the roles of economics in projecting and assessing the future structure of the biotech input sector and its effects on farmers and consumers. The conference is structured around a series of methodological approaches for an understanding of potential contributions to be made to appraising the "new" agriculture with biotechnology. "It is too early in the agbiotech transformation to assess the appropriate strategies and potential outcomes, but not too early to identify potential emerging policy issues while the sector remains in flux."

Sessions include:

A parallel but separately-organized conference titled "The Shape of the Coming Agricultural Biotechnology Transformation" emphasizing agbiotech issues in Europe and developing countries is planned for June 17-19, 1999 at the University of Rome, Tor Vergata. It is organized by the International Consortium on Agricultural Biotechnology Research (ICABR).
